Auditions for the ACTC Childrens Theatre production of Once Upon a Mattress will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 4 and 5, at 4:30 p.m. in the J. B. Sowards Theatre at the College Drive Campus.
Approximately 40 roles are available for third through ninth grade students. Those auditioning will sing and read from the script, with no advance preparation. All children auditioning must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
A musical version of The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress is based on the book by Jay Thompson, Deal Fuller, and Marshall Barer, with music by Mary Rogers and lyrics by Marshall Barer. This G2K (Getting to Know Series) adaptation by the Rogers and Hammerstein Theatre library features lyrics and content edited to suit younger actors and audiences.
Karen Curnutte, an experienced Childrens Theatre director, will be the director, and Max Jackson, ACTC Professor Emeritus of Music, will provide the musical accompaniment.
Rehearsals will be from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and performances will be given February 18 to 20.
