ACTC and MSU Sign Space Science Transfer Agreement

Ashland Community and Technical College and Morehead State University signed an agreement October 17 to establish a transfer program in Space Science.

In the 2+2 transfer program, students will complete two years at ACTC before transferring into the Bachelor of Science degree program in Space Science at MSU. The agreement lists the specific ACTC and MSU courses needed for the bachelors degree, with freshman and sophomore level courses to be completed at ACTC and the junior and senior courses completed at MSU.

MSUs Space Science Center is a division of the Department of Earth and Space Science in the College of Science and Technology and houses Morehead State University's Program of Distinction, Space Science.

ACTC and MSU will collaborate on the development and delivery of the required courses so that the program can be completed in a reasonable time. The two institutions also will review the agreement regularly to make sure the course content reflects industry developments, employment trends and accreditation guidelines.

Dr. Kay Adkins, ACTC president and CEO, and Dr. Wayne D. Andrews, MSU president, signed the agreement in the Rocky Adkins Pavilion on theACTC Technology Drive Campus.

Space Science is an exciting high-tech field of the future, said Dr. Adkins. This collaboration with MSU will provide our students with an additional option for continuing their education in the region.

MSU and ACTC have been working together for years to enhance opportunities for students, Dr. Adkins said. This agreement provides another seamless transfer path for students interested in a bachelors degree close to home.

Our Space Science program is one of five in the United States to offer abachelors degree in space science and has some outstanding students enrolled, Dr. Andrews said. We value our partnership with ACTCand look forward to making it simpler for students to convert their associate degrees and two additional years of study into a bachelors degree.
