Published on Dec 2, 2025
The Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) Foundation hosted their annual Celebration of Philanthropy on Nov. 21, providing an opportunity to honor individuals for their support and hear firsthand from students.
Kim Minnehan, ACTC advancement administrator, delivered opening remarks. Student speakers Seymouria Mitchell and Erin Howard shared how their time at ACTC has impacted their lives.
“I will never forget what this college has done for me,” said Mitchell. “I would’ve never thought I would be here today, but ACTC has helped me see myself differently. This has always been a place I could come to for guidance.”
This year’s Philanthropists of the Year award went to William and Mary West, executers of the Jack & Mildred Bowling Estate.
“Their choices, their time and their hearts have shaped futures and strengthened this college community,” said Dr. Larry Ferguson, ACTC CEO/president. “They embody true philanthropy, not just through giving, but through believing in the potential of others.”
Mary West has spent much of her career investing in students through scholarship opportunities, including her leadership in managing the Big Sandy Superstore Scholarship.
As a couple, William and Mary have devoted countless hours to ensuring future ACTC students would be empowered.
