Published on May 12, 2025
Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) proudly celebrated the achievements of its graduating class at the spring commencement ceremony held on May 9 at the Paramount Arts Center.
Nearly 1,000 students were part of the graduating class of 2024-2025, with many recognized at the ceremony.
“We are privileged to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of our students,” said ACTC President/CEO, Dr. Larry Ferguson. “This momentous occasion represents their hard work, dedication, and growth. It is not only a celebration of academic achievement, but also a testament to the resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit of our graduates.”
The ceremony brought together faculty, staff, families, and friends. Rocky Adkins, senior advisor to Gov. Andy Beshear, served as guest speaker and delivered the commencement address.
“Every day as we work to build this brighter future of hope and opportunity for our people, we will do that because of the great people that you see sitting here in these caps and gowns tonight,” said Adkins. “I’m proud of this institution called Ashland Community and Technical College. I’m proud of it because of what it has done, what it’s done tonight, and what it will do in the future.”
Adkins concluded by thanking ACTC faculty for their dedication and encouraged students, reminding them they had earned the right to be called ACTC alumni.
Professors Hossein Mohebbian and Laura Tussey were recognized as recipients of the 2025 Gussler Fellow award. Students Kate Bryant and Eric Byrd were honored as Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Scholars. Scott Martin, president and CEO of the Northeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, received the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award.
Abby Bingham, president of ACTC’s Student Government Association, gave the student address.
“To my classmates, wherever life takes you next, remember this moment,” Bingham said. “Not just the diploma, but the journey it took to get here. You’re stronger than you think and more capable than you know. Keep moving forward, always be proud of yourself, and never underestimate what you can achieve by never giving up.”
The event was livestreamed by MyTown TV, allowing family and friends who were unable to attend in person to view and celebrate the ceremony from home.
