ACTC hosts successful spring lecture series

Published on Mar 4, 2025

Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) recently hosted its Lecture Series from Feb. 25 to Feb. 27.

The Lecture Series is associated with the Transfer Program Fair that is offered at ACTC each semester, which helps students explore academic pathways after graduating from ACTC.

The three-day event features a range of speakers providing a multi-faceted platform for faculty, staff and invited guests to share their unique experiences and passions, inspiring students to pursue career paths they may not have known existed. Students are provided with a unique opportunity to get direct advice on how to make their goals a reality, meet new friends, and engage in dialogue.

“This spring, our theme was ‘Become an Investigator’, so our lectures covered topics like cybersecurity, journalism, history, medicine, and more,” said Megan Horne, ACTC director of program facilitation, student support services/TRIO and transfer initiatives. “It was a fantastic opportunity to bring in inspiring speakers who helped our students dive deep into the world of discovery during our Lecture Series.”

The Lecture Series is open to the entire ACTC community and can be attended in person or remotely. Many faculty and staff attend the event as well, as they are presented with the opportunity to learn from their colleagues and community members in ways they normally would not get to experience.

Speakers from ACTC included Kayla Acosta, Jennifer Allen, Valerie Briggs, Dr. Sara Brown, David Childress, Wendy Fosterwelsh, Coy Hall, Pamela Klinepeter, Rob Langford, Janet Thompson, Laura Tussey, and Ashley Vanderpool.

Other speakers included Baili Akin, Mid-America College of Funeral Service; Keally Beatty, Marshall University; Mary Claire Collins, Morehead State University; Allison Goble, Re/MAX Realty Connection, LLC; Constance Howlett, Mid-America College of Funeral Service; James Lanham, Marshall University; and John Sammons, Marshall University.
