I'm a Pathfinder: Solomon Harrison

Published on Feb 11, 2025

Current ACTC student, Solomon Harrison, is already laying the foundation to a successful career.

Harrison, a student in the Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) program, is set to graduate in May.

Before attending ACTC, he was homeschooled and began taking dual credit classes while still completing his high school studies.

This early exposure to college-level coursework helped prepare him for the challenges of higher education and provided a smooth transition into the more specialized study of CADD.

Although he says he wasn’t familiar with the field of Computer Aided Drafting prior to attending college, Harrison quickly discovered a passion for the discipline. He dove into the program, learning valuable skills that are already shaping his future career.

A drafter is someone who uses specialized tools and software to create detailed drawings for things like buildings, bridges, machines, and other products.

In ACTC’s CADD program, students learn how to draw by hand and how to use computer software to create 2D and 3D designs.

Skills learned in the program help drafters turn ideas from architects, designers, and engineers into clear, accurate drawings. Drafters are an important part of the team that helps bring designs to life.

In addition to his studies at ACTC, Harrison is currently gaining hands-on experience through an internship at Modern Metals.

He says he plans to continue working at Modern Metals after graduation, where he looks forward to contributing his skills and knowledge in a full-time capacity.
