ACTC Foundation honors Norma Meek with scholarship endowment at the 2024 Women, Wine, Jewels, and More event

Published on Feb 12, 2024

wwjmFor five years, Ashland Community and Technical College’s Foundation has honored women in the community through the annual Women, Wine, Jewels and More event. The event’s sole purpose is to raise money for scholarships for female college students.

The event is always a beautiful evening, including hor d’oeuvres and a silent auction for jewelry, purses, and more. With 136 in attendance this year at The Mill in Ashland, Kentucky, there is much work to be done behind the scenes. The sponsoring hostesses along with the Gem of a Business and Jewel of a Guy sponsors play a vital role in making this event a success. Women, Wine, Jewels and more was founded by former longtime educator in the Boyd County School system, Norma Meek.

“We couldn’t do this event without Norma Meek,” Brooke Seasor, Director of Resource Development at ACTC noted.

To honor Norma for her years of work and dedication to the community, Meek was presented with The Norma Meek Community Women’s Scholarship endowment for her exemplary leadership and incredible support to Women, Wine, Jewels and More.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to ACTC for making The Norma Meek Community Women’s Scholarship Endowment possible,” Meek shared. “I am deeply honored and appreciative of your support and the lasting effect this scholarship has on women.”

Meek understands the expense of college weighs heavily on many, but she also understands its importance. She proudly shares that everything she does with the event is for scholarships for women. If there is a woman who wants to go back to college to get an education, Meek wants to make sure that the opportunity is there and ready.

“Getting to honor Norma for all her years of support to the college made it so special for all the women there,” Seasor added. “I appreciate all her help with this event and her friendship. We are very fortunate to have the sponsoring hostesses, Jewels, and Gems who continue to support women every year with this event. This was our fifth annual event, and it was a great success.”

The event brought in $24,495 for women’s scholarships this year alone, making the grand total since 2019 $112,421.73.
