Celebrating National Radiologic Technology Week: Erin Rathburn’s dedication to excellence

Published on Nov 7, 2024

As we celebrate National Radiologic Technology Week, Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) is proud to shine a spotlight on Erin Rathburn, a second-year student in the college’s radiography program.

Despite having a full-time job and being the mother of a toddler, Rathburn has excelled in her studies. She attributes ACTC’s flexibility to her success.

“ACTC set me up for success by offering affordability, proximity, and a program design that allows me to keep a balance between family, school, and work,” she said. “Not every radiography program would allow me to work full-time and spend time with my husband and 3-year-old son.”

Rathburn’s passion for radiologic technology is evident not only in her academic achievements but also in her willingness to assist and uplift her classmates and co-workers.

“I’ve always been interested in radiography, but in the previous places I’ve lived there wasn’t a program available,” she continued. “I love anatomy and a job that can be high-stakes energy that forces you to think.”

A recent evaluation from UK Kings Daughters noted that she is a wonderful student that is always willing to help and learn, and that the future of Radiologic Technology is bright.

Rathburn said that both ACTC Radiography instructors, Brandy Lemaster and Suzanne Stephens, have been great and are always readily available to answer any questions that the students may have.

“We are incredibly proud of Erin and her achievements,” said Brandy Lemaster, ACTC Radiography clinical coordinator. “We look forward to seeing all that she will accomplish in her future career.”
