ACTC offers direct path to MSU’s social work program

There are many opportunities for ACTC graduates to transfer into a four-year program, but one of them is unique in that it is right in students’ back doors.

Students can apply and enroll in Morehead State University’s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program and complete their coursework on ACTC’s College Drive Campus.

“Having the BSW program at ACTC, provides students with an opportunity to earn a BSW degree from a challenging and accredited social work program right in their own community,” said Mary Claire Williams, Social Work Program Facilitator/Instructor.

Williams said she has noticed that their program serves non-traditional adult learners who do not have time to commute due to their busy schedules.

“Our hybrid program allows flexibility for students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend our main campus due to transportation issues, full time employment, or a busy family schedule,” she said.

The curriculum is delivered through a mix of face-to-face and online courses, with in-person classes being offered two days a week.

These options allow for flexibility in schedule and classroom interaction with professors and other students.

Students complete their associates degree from ACTC, completing the majority of general education coursework needed for their bachelor's degree.

“We depend on our partners at ACTC to teach students the foundation they need in areas such as writing and critical thinking,” said Williams.

The easy transition from ACTC to MSU is made possible by the Eagle Express Joint Admission Agreement, signed in 2022.

This agreement allows ACTC advisors to collaborate and share some student record information with advisors at MSU to ensure that while enrolled at ACTC, students are taking the appropriate courses they need to transfer to their MSU program.

Along with collaborative advising, students will receive free transcript exchange and evaluation, and automatic award of the Kentucky Transfer Scholarship (if eligible).
