ACTC Fall Transfer Program Fair a success

Ashland Community and Technical College hosted their annual fall Transfer Program Fair on the College Drive Campus September 23-26.
The four-day long event gives students the chance to connect with university representatives to learn about their colleges and explore opportunities to further their education beyond their time at ACTC.
The theme for the fair this fall was “Become a Storyteller.”
“Through the Transfer Program Fairs, we aim to inspire and inform,” shared Megan Horne, ACTC Director of Program Facilitation, Student Support Services/TRIO and Transfer Initiatives. “While we love having our students at ACTC, we know so many of them will expand career opportunities if they transfer after graduation with their two-year degree to earn a bachelor’s degree or higher. The more they hear and consider future academic goals while a student at ACTC, the more realistic they become and more likely they are to come to fruition.”
With over 20 colleges/universities in attendance, the students that passed through the fair had many great options to consider. Throughout the week, several colleges hosted presentations on their program offerings that students could attend in person or remotely.
Programs covered in the college presentations included behavioral sciences, biology/pre-med, business, communications, computer science/engineering, criminal justice, digital content creation, education, English, IT, and others.
Among those who presented was Jen Timmermann, Director of Transfer at Morehead State University.
“The transfer fair week hosted by ACTC is a fantastic way for prospective students to gain early access to universities they may not otherwise be aware of,” Timmermann shared. “By hosting a week of presentations and information tables with a variety of colleges and universities, students are exposed to the vast opportunities they can pursue after KCTCS graduation. We encourage students to find their ‘home away from home’ and the transfer fair is a wonderful way to foster that decision making journey.”
Other colleges/universities in attendance included:
Alice Lloyd College, Asbury University, Bellevue University, Eastern Kentucky University, Franklin University, Indiana Tech, Indiana Wesleyan University, Kentucky Christian University, Kentucky State University, Kentucky State University, Marshall University, MSU – Education, MSU-Social Work, Northern Kentucky University, Ohio University, Simmons College, Sullivan University, University of Charleston School of Pharmacy, University of Kentucky, University of Phoenix, University of Pikeville, Western Governors University.
“I am truly grateful for the twenty-four or so colleges, universities, and transfer program coordinators who participated in our ‘Become a Storyteller’ Transfer Program Fair,” Horne added. “Their willingness to spend time on our campus, getting to know our students, faculty, and staff, and share valuable information is so important and appreciated.”
