ACTC works to combat healthcare shortage, hosts successful career fair

ASHLAND, Ky. – Ashland Community and Technical College hosted its first Health Sciences and Health Professions Career Fair in partnership with the Ashland Alliance last Monday.
The event was held at the College Drive campus and had nearly 100 students and alumni in attendance. They were able to network with the nearly 20 healthcare employers who took part.
“The decision was made to host a career fair this spring specifically for Health Sciences and Health Professions majors based on feedback that we received from our local employers and community partners regarding staffing shortages,” said Ashley Vanderpool, Director of Career Services.
ACTC has multiple associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates for those interested in the healthcare field including Advanced Nursing Assistant, Health Science Technology, Medical Assisting, Medical Information Technology, Practical Nursing, Nursing (ADN), Radiography, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology, Nurse Aide and Kentucky Medication Aide, Phlebotomy, ECG Tech, and Pharmacy Technician.
“The event was a success, and it was great to see and hear students networking with professionals in their field of interest,” said Vanderpool. “Career fairs benefit everyone involved by allowing recruiters to meet ACTC’s qualified and motivated candidates, and students and alumni can network in a low-pressure environment.”
Last week’s healthcare career fair came on the heels of the highly successful all-major career fair held at ACTC’s Technology Drive Campus last month. ACTC Career Services plans to host an all-major fair each semester with the addition of a health sciences and health professions fair each spring. Students, alumni, and prospective students are invited to attend.
