ASHLAND, Ky. – Faculty and staff at Ashland Community and Technical College participated in training exercises on Friday with emphasis on safety and situational awareness.

“Our crisis management team has been wanting this training for several years and kudos to Kellie Allen [Chief Human Resources Officer] and our leadership team for making it happen,” said Jim Fox, Director of Safety and Security. “These methods and concepts can be utilized both on campus and off and I was very pleased with the information that the training sessions provided.”

Employees participated in interactive run, hide, fight, observe scenarios under the direction of Kentucky State Police Lieutenant Jim Shelton. Other agencies presenting at the training were the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, Ashland Police Department’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Task Force, Boyd County Emergency Management and Cannonsburg Fire Department.

“The safety of our faculty, staff, and students is of the utmost importance to us,” said Dr. Larry Ferguson, President/CEO. “We appreciate the partnerships we have with local first responders in ensuring that our employees are trained to handle a crisis situation in the event one occurs. We certainly hope they never have to use this training, but are thankful to have it available to us.”
