ACTC announces partnership with University of Charleston

ASHLAND, Ky. – Dr. Larry Ferguson, President/CEO and Dr. Todd Brand, Chief Academic Officer at Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) are excited to announce a new partnership between ACTC and the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy (UCSOP). 

Any student receiving an Associate of Science degree from ACTC would be automatically granted an interview at the UCSOP, as long as they met all other application qualifications.

To be eligible, a student must have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours at ACTC and notify ACTC in writing of the intent to pursue the dual credit program and meet the criteria for admission to UCSOP. 

“One of the challenges that colleges face in this economy is time to credential,” said Brand.  “Innovative measures that can reduce the amount of time students must spend in school to obtain their credential are being explored at schools everywhere.   Not only does reducing time to credential save time, but it saves costs.  It saves costs that additional hours and semesters will place on students, and it also creates more monies in the form of lifetime earnings.”

According to their website, the mission of the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy is to prepare pharmacists and scientists to have a positive impact on the community through advocacy, scholarship and innovation. Pharmacy graduates will provide the highest level of interprofessional patient care with an emphasis on serving rural and underserved populations.

Pharmacists are conducting COVID-19 tests, administering the new vaccines, educating patients and other healthcare professionals, evaluating the literature, assisting with research and clinical trials and communicating important information to the public. We are grateful for the opportunity to train future pharmacists from ACTC that aspire to make a difference in the lives of their patients and communities.”
