
Practical Nursing Curriculum Semester Plan
Below is the curriculum semester plan for the Practical Nursing Diploma. Students must receive a grade of āCā or better in all curriculum courses.
Progression in the Practical Nursing program is contingent upon achievement of a grade of āCā or better in each course and maintenance of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale).
If general education courses are not taken prior to admission they must be taken in the sequence listed below:
PREREQUISITE COURSES
- NAA 100 or equivalent 75-hour nurse aide course WITH successful completion of the written and skills state nurse aide test within the past 3 years OR Active, good-standing status on nurse aide registry, OR completion of an approved Nursing Fundamentals course. - 0-3 credits
- PSY 110 General Psychology - 3 credits
- BIO 137 Anatomy & Physiology I (with lab) OR BIO 135 Basic Anatomy and Physiology (with lab) - 4 credits
- ENG 101 Writing I - 3 credits
- AHS 115 or CLA 131 Medical Terminology - 3 credits
FIRST SEMESTER (FALL)
- BIO 139 Anatomy & Physiology II with lab (if applicable) - 4 credits
- NPN 106 Nursing Fundamentals - 6 credits
- NPN 108 Pharmacology - 3 credits
- NPN 125 Mental Health - 3 credits
SECOND SEMESTER (SPRING)
- NPN 140 Nursing Care I - 3 credits
- NPN 201 Childbearing Family - 3 credits
- NPN 208 Nursing Care II - 10 credits
THIRD SEMESTER (SUMMER)
- NPN 210 Clinical Practicum - 4 credits
- NPN 215 Nursing Trends & Issues - 1 credit
*Students seeking the General Occupational / Technical Studies (GOTS) (AAS Degree) must complete courses in addition to those listed above. Please discuss this option with your assigned advisor
