Learning Center

Boyd County Adult Education Skills U program, also known as the Adult Learning Center (1400 College Drive - Office 167), is the core component of the program. The Center is open Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:00pm. Flexible scheduling is a central concept of the Learning Center.

Classes are offered between 8:00AM and 12:15PM Monday thru Thursday. Evening classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evening between 5:00PM and 7:30PM.

Each learner sets their own schedule to attend which allows flexibility around shift work or other personal scheduling obligations. The Center has a vast array of materials, equipment, and resources that may be utilized, i.e., computers, laptops, iPads, Chromebooks, online programs, software, and workbooks.

The following services are provided at the Learning Center:

  • Reading, math, writing skills review
  • GED preparation
  • College preparation
  • College entrance test preparation (TABE/KYOTE)
  • English Language Acquisition 
  • Computer skills training
  • Employability Skills ( Resume Writing, Interview Techniques)
  • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
  • Kentucky Career Readiness Certificate (KCRC)

The Center is the state designated site in Boyd County to administer the GED Ready also known as the Official GED Practice Test. Please call 606-326-2457 in order to schedule an appointment.

The Learning Center works closely with Morehead State University's Commonwealth Education Opportunity Center (CEOC) and their educational counselor is available to meet with students on a regular basis in their transition to college.

The Kentucky Career Center partners with the Learning Center and the Learning Center serves as a One Stop satellite center where job seekers may initiate job searches on the computers.
