Dual Credit Opportunities
Dual credit may be an option for high school students who want to begin taking college courses while they are still in high school. Dual credit courses at Ashland Community and Technical College are offered during the regular school day at all of the high schools in our area. Dual Credit is a college level course of study where a high school student earns both high school and college credit upon successful completion of the course. Dual credit courses are transferrable to other public post-secondary institutions in Kentucky. Students interested in taking dual credit courses must meet the following criteria before they are allowed to participate in this opportunity:
- Qualifying entrance examination test scores. (These scores are subject to change.
Below are the most recent scores required for admission to entry-level college courses):
Math: ACT 19 or KYOTE 22 or higher (College Readiness)
NOTE: Students will receive supplemental instruction during the college algebra course
Reading: ACT 20 or KYOTE 20 or higher
English: ACT 18 or KYOTE 6 or higher
- Must be a junior or senior
- Recommendation of the high school counselor
There is a cost associated with dual credit courses through ACTC, but it is much lower than regular tuition costs. Students can not only gain college credit, but can gain that credit with less of a financial obligation. Currently, the tuition/fees for dual credit offerings at ACTC are:
- $52 per credit hour
- Students residing in KY and attending a public high school may be eligible for the Kentucky Dual Credit Scholarship or the Junior Dual Credit Scholarship (see high school counselor for eligibility).
