David and Libbi Caines establish endowed student support fund to assist ACTC students

Published on Nov 27, 2024

Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) proudly announces the establishment of the “David & Libbi Mullins Caines Student Support Fund,” an endowment created to support ACTC students facing financial challenges.

Generously funded by David and Libbi Caines, this endowment will provide assistance to both full-time and part-time students with a 2.5 GPA or higher, spanning all academic and vocational programs.

The David and Libbi Mullins Caines Student Support Fund is designed not as a traditional scholarship fund, but as a unique resource to address students’ broader needs beyond tuition. This support aligns with the Caines’ belief in the transformative power of education and the vital role community colleges play in bridging caps and fostering confidence.

David and Libbi Caines shared their motivation for establishing the fund:

“Like many Ashland children of our generation, we grew up in Armco families with parents who appreciated the value of education. ACC, now ACTC, offered a local two-year foundation for college at an affordable price. ACC also offered an atmosphere that helped bridge the gap, instill confidence, and encourage success in students whose backgrounds may not have fostered such traits.”

When they look back on their academic journey, they shared that the best teachers they encountered along the way were at ACC.

“We were fortunate to have had successful careers and want to help area students get the start we had. This would include those working toward a degree or a vocational certification. Our endowment is not a scholarship fund but one that will help address students’ needs beyond tuition.”

ACTC is grateful for the generosity and commitment shown by David and Libbi Caines in establishing this endowment. Their support ensures that ACTC students have the resources they need to succeed, regardless of their financial situations, by making higher education and vocational training accessible to all.
