Ashland Community and Technical College partnered alongside multiple community members to make a difference this holiday season by working together to provide students with a full Thanksgiving meal.
The idea began with holding a food drive for the month of November and evolved into more.
Erin Cantrell, ACTC Academic Advisor, worked to obtain a $1,500 sponsorship from WellCare to help provide these dinners. Vicki Bruce of Giovanni’s Wholesale also got involved in providing for the students by donating 20 turkeys and cans of vegetables.
On November 20th, ACTC was able to give away a total of 37 dinners to students who have utilized the food pantry. Dinners included turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, yams, rolls, as well as a choice between a pumpkin or apple pie.
“I plan to continue working with WellCare each year to offer this to our students who are in need. The students were greatly appreciative of the dinners,” Cantrell concluded.
