Learning Center

The Adult Learning Center (4818 Roberts Drive) is the core component of the program. The Center is open: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 to 12:30 and/or Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00. Flexible scheduling is a central concept of the Learning Center.

Instructors provide one-on-one instruction whereby the learner may work at his/her own level and pace of learning. Each learner sets his/her own schedule to attend which allows flexibility around shift work or other personal scheduling obligations. The Center has a vast array of materials, equipment and resources that can be utilized, i.e., computers, videos (including KET's GED Connection), Brainchild study gadgets, software and workbooks. The following services are provided at the Learning Center:

  • Reading, math, writing skills review
  • GED preparation
  • College preparation
  • College entrance test preparation (ACT/Compass)
  • English-as-a-Second Language
  • Computer skills training
  • Resumé writing
  • Interview techniques
  • Internet job search
  • Test-taking strategies
  • Site for distance learning (PLATO and WIN)

The Center is the state designated site in Boyd County to administer the Official GED Practice Test. Please call 606-326-2457 in order to schedule an appointment.

Each Tuesday an Education Counselor from Morehead State University's Commonwealth Education Opportunity Center (CEOC) is available at the Learning Center to meet with individual learners in their transition to college. The Learning Center also serves as a One-Stop satellite center where job seekers may initiate job searches on the computers.
