Respiratory Care Advanced Practitioner

In this consortium program, Ashland Community College and Technical College, Morehead State University, and Maysville  Community & Technical College - Rowan County Campus have joined together to offer respiratory care education which meets the standards of the Commission on the  Accreditation for Respiratory Care.

The program prepares graduates to take an active role in the maintenance and/or restoration of cardiopulmonary homeostasis.

Classroom instruction in technical respiratory and general education courses is supplemented with learning experiences in the campus laboratory and in area hospitals.  Students are responsible for transportation to clinical sites.

Students completing this program will earn an Associate Degree in Applied  Science in  Respiratory Care and be qualified to take the national board examination in Respiratory Care in order to receive the Certified Respiratory Therapist (C.R.T.) Credential and Registered Respiratory Therapist (R.R.T.).

Campus/Class Location

Students will complete all admission requirements, receive financial aid, register for classes, and pay tuition and fees at their home institution.

Respiratory technical courses will be taken at Maysville Community & Technical College - Rowan County Campus Monday/Wednesday/Friday.  General education courses will be taken Tuesday/Thursday at the student’s home campus.  Transportation to class is the student’s responsibility.

Career Path

Although hospitals employ the majority of respiratory therapists, other employers include home care providers, medical clinics, nursing homes and industry.

Admission Requirements

This is a selective admissions program.  In order for an application to be considered, students must have:

  • Application for admission to college.
  • Respiratory Care application.
  • Required minimum ACT scores (Math - 19 / Reading - 20 / Writing - 18) or the equivalent on the COMPASS or ASSET examination.
  • Documentation of observation hours.
  • Official transcript of all post-secondary coursework.
  • Documentation of attendance at a Respiratory Care pre-admission conference.
  • All developmental courses must be taken prior to pre-requisite courses.
  • All pre-requisite courses must be taken prior to program admission.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) courses must be completed prior to admission.

Program Length

4 semesters after a student is accepted into the program.
