Kentucky Fallen Firefighters to be Remembered at Frankfort Memorial

Sep 27, 2013 - | 09:15 AM -

The 14th annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial service will honor and remember Kentucky firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty to protect the citizens of Kentucky. The Memorial is a joint effort by the Kentucky Firefighters Association, Kentucky Professional Firefighters Association of Fire Chiefs, Frankfort Fire and EMS and the Kentucky Fire Commission.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 2, at Juniper Hills Park, 800 Louisville Rd (US 60) in Frankfort. The memorial service will include a wreath laying to honor Kentucky’s fallen heroes and an opportunity for attendees to pay their respects. The eighth annual Red Helmets Courage Ride, a motorcycle tribute to firefighters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, will begin at Frankfort Fire and EMS Station #3 prior to the service.

Firefighters, along with their family, friends and supporters will attend the memorial from all corners of the commonwealth. This will be a day filled with emotion, memories and love.

“These fallen men and women are like our brothers and sisters,” said Ronnie Day, executive director of the Kentucky Fire Commission. “It’s important for us to reflect and honor them, and also remember how they sacrificed their lives to protect others.”

Kentucky’s Fallen Firefighter Memorial was erected October 11, 1999 and includes more than 200 names of firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

Editor’s Note: Media are welcome to cover this service. There will be several good photo and video opportunities, interviews available by request.
