Step 3 - Request Official College/Postsecondary School Transcript(s)

If you have ever enrolled or attended another college/postsecondary institution you must submit an official transcript from each institution before you will be allowed to enroll in courses.

Electronic transcripts for many colleges and universities can be requested from the National Student Clearinghouse(http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/).

Concurrent/Visiting Students

  • Submit a Letter of Good Standing from your current college or university to the Admissions Office at ACTC.
  • After the letter is received you may enroll in courses by visiting the Advising Center on the College Drive Campus Room 114 of the Goodpaster Building or on the Technology Drive Campus Room 157. Appointments are recommended by calling 606-326-2040 or 606-326-2228.
  • You may need an unofficial transcript or proof of test scores if a course you wish to enroll in requires prerequisite course work or placement test scores.

Step 4 - Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Online

All students should complete the FAFSA whether you qualify for financial aid or not. Most grants and scholarships require submission of the FAFSA.(Visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)

You will need the ACTC School code to complete the financial aid form: 001990.

Step 5- Take the College Entrance Exam (COMPASS).

Students enrolling in KCTCS colleges for the purpose of earning credit applicable toward an educational credential (certificate, diploma, or associate's degree) must demonstrate through the submission of scores on specific assessment instruments that they possess the minimum academic skills essential for success in courses required for credential.

Approved testing instruments for assessment and placement are:

  • ACT
  • SAT
  • ASSET
  • COMPASS
  • KYOTE
  • TABE
  • WorkKeys

Please call the Advising Center to discuss your prior test results and to determine your need for assessment/placement testing. Note: Have your student ID Number ready before calling!

Technology Drive Campus - (606) 326-2040

Students who do not meet the admission criteria through prior testing but have earned 12 credit hours of postsecondary college level general education (non-transitional education) work in the last 7 years should call the advising center to determine the need for assessment/placement testing.

Students scoring below the college readiness standards may be eligible for high quality basic skills through Kentucky Adult Education. Students with college readiness scores below the benchmark can take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) at the local KYAE Center to determine eligibility.
